Short Bio:
Isn’tses make and design their own psychogeographic instruments which they bring with them on stage. They are very interested in place and spiritual belonging through multiple layers of consciousness, time and dimensions. Feeling they are not of this world or time and place their music aims to conjure the lost ancient ones by delving into ritualistic vocals, beats, sonic textures and time signatures. When performing live they seek to be fully in the moment, leaping through invisible barriers that exist between this world and the next. Drawing on Mexican heritage they wear Luchador masks to conjure the spirit of Astaroth, Pentagon or Fenix and with a sci-fi aspect they communicate further through FX manipulated light sabres which hint at intergalactic battles between the dimensions where they fight the enemy of expression. They have performed recently at CV Freqs IKLECTIK, Centrala Birmingham, CRUX New River Studios, Noise Club Copenhagen, Kiyasu Fest Bristol, Farsight Gallery London, ClubGlob Brighton, Alphabet Brighton, Renaissance Alternative Music Festival, Circuit Control Dresden, Gate Festival UK, C.Rockefeller Centre for the Contemporary Arts Dresden, Mayhem Night Black Heart, Spanners London, Electropixel Festival France, Baba Yaga's Hut Raw Power Festival. Isn'tses (Lisa McKendrick & Timothy Drage) are creators of: Chernobylizer, Fort Processor, Dark Harvestator, Mars Roveriser, Chernobyletta Find our synths here: https://isntses.etsy.com/ |
More info:
Isn’tses is a duo that creates high-energy electronic music using a unique semi-modular setup of self-designed synths, modules, gameboy, Octatrack and other synths or devices. Live they use a DAWless set up which is a blend of structured beats, improvised sounds and vocals, ensuring that no two sets are the same. Our sound is built from drum programming, dismantled synth recordings, live vocals, and raw sonic fragments creating a jagged energy. The music is a collision between structure and unbridled friction. It is a live survival of the sound, where the rhythm has to be strong enough to withstand the chaos around it, surviving whatever equipment failure or unpredictability that happens on stage.

Isn’tses in Action :
NEW RELEASE - STUDIO ALBUM coming soon in 2026
In addition to playing live as a duo they also run workshops were participants can build their own synth, suitable for beginners to more advanced. They sometimes run a stall at pedal festivals such as IKLECTIKA and Noise Maker Market.
Outdoor stuff:
Isn'tses like to collaborate regularly with other musicians in forests or outdoor spaces where there is no audience except the trees and insects, they record this using multiple cameras and no two performances are alike, here they evoke the wood spirits and a Cthulhu / folk horror mythos. See playlist here:
Sample Packs:
In addition to making their own music they also have released two sample packs which can be found on their bandcamp.
They have played live on Resonance FM (Bad Punk, The Wrong Show, Bermuda Triangle Test Transmission), Cashmere Radio Berlin and were played on Graham Dunning’s NTS Radio show “Fractal Meat on a Spongy Bone” Isn'tses have released recordings as hand-crafted cassette editions including “Punctum” and “Ultimate Problem of Documentation”. They were featured in catalogue and cd compilation for 3 Years of Dronica and artist compilation for Sonic Electronics Festival.
Reviews:
"London-based duo of Lisa McKendrick and Tim Drage, have a wicked sense of humour and a unique visual aesthetic, dressing in bespoke sequinned costumes which make them look like displaced grapplers from an obscure Japanese indy wrestling division. Mere eye candy they ain’t, mind: Punctum, their third self-released cassette, is an epic 90 minutes of obscurely crafted analogue machine gurgle – “an album of mysterious origin”, the sole description on the Bandcamp page, may not specifically refer to its methodology but certainly could." - Noel Gardner, The Quietus
“you can’t replicate that signature sound you have....so dense and full of detail and movement....a different use of space...really tight and immediate and close” - Bermuda Triangle Test Transmissions, Resonance FM
